Founded in 1995, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at IU Indianapolis seeks to advance excellence in teaching practices and professional growth among all members of the campus teaching community to enhance student learning and success. We do this by providing training, development, and resources to instructors at all levels that promote evidence-based practices in teaching and learning; encourage professional growth in teaching; advance innovation and experimentation in teaching; empower engagement in scholarly teaching; and foster inclusion and equity.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides excellent and responsive administrative, clerical, and reception support for the CTL and provides administrative support to the Center's director.
- Welcomes all visitors coming into the CTL; answers incoming calls; takes meeting minutes; prepares correspondence and presentation materials.
- Maintains the director's calendar, supporting the center's recurring meetings and annual staff retreat, and providing day-to-day administrative support.
- Serves as the public face for the CTL, acting as the first point of contact to callers and visitors, determining their needs, and connecting them with the appropriate person or resource.
- Maintains the director's calendar, schedule, and provide support for recurring meetings by recording and tracking action items and meeting minutes.
- Serves as backup and assist with event planning and assist as needed as back up with purchasing and travel.
- Tracks and maintains office supply inventory.
- Performs other clerical duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
- Provides administrative support to a department or group of professionals, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.
- Utilizes business software applications to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, minutes, etc.; compiles data for expense and statistical reports.
- Receives, screens, and directs incoming calls, visitors, mail, and email promptly, courteously, and accurately.
- Schedules and confirms appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements; tracks expenses.
- Participates in the development and implementation of administrative standards, policies and practices for the organization.
- May perform other duties related to maintaining an internal website and/or working with social media.
QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required- 2 years of relevant experience

Working Conditions / DemandsThis role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
