Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor manages all admissions aspects of assigned academic programs and is responsible for building strong relationships with prospective students and counterparts in partner programs. The counselor will review Master and Doctoral-level applications and make independent admission decisions for some Master-level admission applications. The counselor also works very closely with faculty department chairs to ensure that the MCE meets enrollment goals. In addition, the position supports the goal of the university and college to attract and retain diverse students. Counselors will be sensitive to, and understand, the diverse academic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds of university personnel and students and foster positive and harmonious working relationships inside and outside the university.

Essential Functions

In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Generate and follow up on leads resulting from individual inquiries and from marketing/recruitment efforts; independently create follow up protocol for prospects for primary programs; advise prospective students regarding general program information, admission requirements, and prerequisites; act as applicants primary contact throughout application cycle including primary oversight of application completion and tracking of application requirements from initial contact to admission decision
  • Conducting information sessions and presentations to interested groups of potential applicants virtually, on campus, at other academic institutions, and to specific organizations/groups as appropriate
  • Participate in the development of recruitment materials and partner with MCE marketing partners as needed.
  • Gather, analyze and interpret information on competitors programs as well as new market opportunities.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Admissions, the MCE marketing unit and Department Chairs/program liaisons to assist in the development policies, and procedures, including admissions processes, required application materials, application deadlines, and faculty processes for applicant review.
  • Coordinate application processes. Work with MCE faculty and staff as appropriate to be sure that enrollment plans are understood and managed in terms of communication, application and admissions processes, file maintenance, and reporting. Assure that those with a vested interest know the status of files as appropriate. Track results against enrollment plans and take a leadership role in developing action items and timelines for meeting programmatic goals.
  • Utilize the DU CRM (Slate) to maintain inquiry and applicant database.
  • Arrange sites for applicant interviews and communicate interview logistics with all involved.
  • Manage the use of the DU CRM system (Slate) to track all student information, from inquiry through matriculation. Collect and maintain statistical information related to recruitment and admission. Disseminate this information as called for to the MCE administration, faculty, students, Colorado Department of Education, or other University departments
  • Support in the administration of financial aid in partnership with the Student Financial Aid officer
Other duties as assigned.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication, both oral and written. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in large-group settings to a variety of audiences. Ability to communicate the features, benefits, value and outcomes of a Morgridge and DU education. Ability to describe the areas of study and curriculum offered at Morgridge as well as the benefits each offer.
  • Must effectively manage letters, e-mails and calls to prospects.
  • Organization Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, plan work within the larger context of known program goals, make thoughtful decisions, and work independently on occasion. Must be able to assess opportunities and situations and provide reasonable solutions.
  • Strategic Ability: Ability to understand industry and data trends for academic programs and translate into measurable action plans.
  • Data and Results Tracking: Ability to summarize the results of recruiting efforts.
  • Initiative: Act independently to resolve or enhance a particular issue/program/initiative with guidance from supervisor.
  • Flexibility/Organization: Must be flexible to adapt to meet the needs of our constituents. Daily schedule is impacted by prospective students visiting, phoning, and e-mailing and the Admissions Counselor must, at times, put daily tasks on hold to provide customer service. Ability to coordinate multiple events and activities while maintaining focus on details and outcomes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited school
  • 1-2 years of admissions/marketing and/or communications and/or related experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with diverse populations and constituents.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three years of administrative experience preferably in college/university admissions.
  • Knowledge of University procedures Banner systems, Slate CRM, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft software applications (Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity
  • Must have a teamwork approach to projects and problem solving
  • Time management and solid organizational skills
Working Environment
  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Local and national travel is required.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 7.

Hourly Range:
The hourly range for the position is $24.00-$28.00

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
