Description of Work:

The Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applications for an Agricultural Banking and Finance position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This 9-month (academic year), tenure-track appointment will develop and maintain nationally and internationally recognized research, teaching and outreach programs in agricultural banking and finance, including oversight of the undergraduate Agricultural Banking and Finance Program. The apportionment is 50% research and 50% teaching. This position will be located in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The incumbent will provide leadership for the Agricultural Banking and Finance Program in the Department of Agricultural Economics. This includes recruiting, advising, and mentoring approximately 30 to 40 students in the program, along with fostering scholarship and internship support from the Nebraska Banking Association.

Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate level with the possibility to develop complimentary departmental courses on financial management and analysis as well as a graduate degree program in agricultural banking and finance. Research and outreach will be applied to financial capital markets serving agriculture, the macro-economic outlook for agricultural sector and its associated impacts on financial institutions and rural communities in Nebraska, as well as financial risk management strategies for Nebraska farm/ranch operations.

The incumbent will be expected to obtain and leverage external research support for these activities and to publish in appropriate high-impact journals. Activities include collaborating with the Nebraska banking industry, including being an active participant in the various state, regional, and national banking conferences.

Partnerships are expected with other IANR and UNL entities, regional university faculty, and public and private organizations focused on agricultural banking and finance. This includes possible participation in the Center for Agricultural Profitability, Rural Prosperity Nebraska, Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program, Bureau of Business Research and other academic units within IANR.

All faculty with a CASNR academic appointment are expected to contribute to the instructional mission of the college. The incumbent will be expected to average 0.5 FTE as determined by the CASNR Academic Appointment Guidelines. Specific course assignments may be changed over time based on Academic Unit need.

Expectations for this position also include supporting unit recruitment efforts, the IANR science literacy initiative and their individual engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Service expectations include consulting with public programs (extension education and outreach) in the department and public relations (e.g., giving public lectures and writing popular articles). Opportunities exist for science literacy programming for PK-12 teachers and their students. The incumbent will also be expected to contribute to University, Institute, College and Department programs through service on committees.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position are:
* Ph.D. In Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Finance, Agribusiness, Economics or related field at the time of employment
* Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes commensurate with appropriate rank of hire
* Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research commensurate with appropriate rank of hire
* Experience and/or interest in Agricultural Banking and Finance and related areas of research and teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications for this position are:
* Exhibited ability to work in interdisciplinary teams and provide program leadership
* A demonstrated excellence in graduate and undergraduate student mentoring
* Demonstrated experience with or participation in curriculum development at undergraduate and/or graduate level
* Experience with grants and/or external funding
* Agricultural Banking and Finance industry experience
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
