Position Summary:

The School of Law is seeking an experienced and strategic senior philanthropy professional to lead and enhance its growing philanthropic mission. As the Assistant Dean for Development, you will provide strategic and managerial leadership to advance all facets of the law school's development efforts. Your role will involve spearheading complex and major gift fundraising initiatives, principal gift activities, and gift planning strategies that align with both the law school's and the broader university's priorities. This position requires a proactive and collaborative approach to maximizing charitable contributions through donor-centric strategies, best practices, and effective program management.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Professional Experience: Progressive experience in fundraising or a related field, with a strong track record of managing complex and multi-dimensional fundraising activities. Expertise in Public Higher Education: In-depth understanding of the nature and purpose of public higher education, and the role of philanthropy within this context. Leadership and Team Management: Ability to lead and manage teams effectively, setting clear individual expectations, deliverables, and accountability. Demonstrated success in inspiring and fostering team collaboration. Fundraising Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex fundraising initiatives simultaneously. Experience coordinating solicitation strategies in collaboration with university partners is essential. Experience with major gift donors is preferred. Strategic Collaboration: Strong ability to work collaboratively with leadership to develop, plan, and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies. Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences. Creativity and Initiative: High level of creativity, initiative, and self-motivation in developing and executing innovative fundraising strategies. Team Orientation: Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and a willingness to lead by example, setting high standards for personal and team development. The successful candidate will be a polished, strategic fundraising professional with a proven ability to drive successful fundraising campaigns and build effective partnerships within the university community.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Major Gift Experience: Proven track record of soliciting and successfully closing six- and seven-figure gifts. Experience in structuring and securing eight-figure gifts is highly preferred. Academic Fundraising Expertise: Extensive philanthropic experience in academic institution fundraising, with a particular emphasis on higher education. Experience with fundraising specifically for law schools is strongly preferred. Strategic Gift Structuring: Demonstrated ability to navigate and close complex gift agreements and structures, including major and transformational gifts. Sector Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the unique fundraising dynamics and challenges associated with law schools and higher education institutions. Relationship Management: Successful experience in building and maintaining relationships with high-net-worth individuals and influential stakeholders within academic and legal communities. Campaign Leadership: Experience leading or significantly contributing to large-scale, comprehensive fundraising campaigns within an academic or institutional setting.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
