The Division of Microbiology, Tulane National Primate Research Center, Tulane University School of Medicine, Covington, LA invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience. Primary responsibilities of the position include: 1) building and expanding an independent research program and advancing the research and academic programs of the division; 2) collaborating with other investigators on the design, implementation and interpretation of diverse biomedical research projects involving infectious diseases and diseases associated with immune responses to pathogens, and to use this knowledge to develop tailored preventive and therapeutic strategies; and 3) training of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and residents. The relative emphasis on each of these components is negotiable depending on the applicant's interest and expertise. The individual selected will join a very active research group that includes several NIH-funded faculty members and numerous collaborators, both domestic and international. The Division of Microbiology is actively engaged in several areas of non-human primate research including AIDS, tuberculosis, varicella zoster virus, neurodegenerative diseases, biodefense, immunology of aging and regenerative medicine, SARS-CoV-2 and emerging pathogens.
The academic appointment will be in either the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Tulane University School of Medicine (SOM) or the Department of Tropical Medicine of the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (SPHTM). Significant collaborations exist among the TNPRC, SOM and SPHTM which offer unique and highly synergistic resources and opportunities. The academic appointment will allow the Assistant Professor to be a part of graduate student programs from either school.
The research portfolio and infrastructure of the TNPRC are focused primarily on nonhuman primate models of disease but other animal models are also available. All necessary resources to assure that the candidate is successful will be provided including ample laboratory and office space and administrative assistance.
The TNPRC has outstanding, state-or-the-art infrastructure to support collaborative and independent research using primates. In addition to having one of the largest, well-managed, genetically defined colonies of nonhuman primates in the country, the TNPRC houses a large Regional Biosafety Laboratory, to support research under the NIH/NIAID National Biodefense Program. Research resources include extensive BSL2/ABSL2 and BSL3/ABSL3 facilities and highly integrated clinical and laboratory support for studies using nonhuman primates. This includes a full-time staff of clinical veterinarians and technicians and core services including: (1) Anatomic Pathology, (2) Biotelemetry, (3) Cellular Immunology, (4) Clinical Pathology, (5) Confocal Microscopy and Image Analysis, (6) Diagnostic Parasitology, (7) Flow Cytometry, (8) Infectious Disease Aerobiology, (9) Pathogen Detection and Quantification, (10) Vector-Borne Diseases, and Tick-Borne Disease Vectors), and (11) Virus Characterization, Isolation, Production and Sequencing.

Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D./Ph.D.). The ideal candidate will have a track record of recent publications, fellowship and/or grant funding.
