The Athletics Trainer is responsible to the Athletics Manager for providing training services before, during and after events and games. Additionally, the Athletics Trainer will focus on enhancing student athlete wellness and health safety by having oversight of the Strength and Conditioning room and programs, Concussion Protocol, Coach CPR trainings, and as needed rehabilitation services.
Responsibilities
Attend all sporting events as required for the purpose of providing training services prior to, during, and after events and games.
Be available and provide training services to athletes on non-game dates.
Manage and arrange physicals for student athlete and athletic teams.
Coordinate and work with rehabilitation services that can be performed on campus.
Maintain secure medical records of injuries and complete injury claim forms.
Provide a comprehensive Concussion Protocol.
Maintain the Athletic Training facilities and the Strengthen and Conditioning areas.
Oversee equipment management.
Attend Athletic Staff meetings, Coaches meetings and other meetings as required.
Maintain a good working relationship with the coaching staff and provide coaching trainings as needed on CPR and strategies to help reduce student athlete injury.
Provide oversight of Strength and Conditioning programs and team room, which includes designing and developing programs for each team, preparing instruction for proper techniques.
Supervise and serve as a preceptor for Graduate Assistant and Athletic Training Students.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in athletic training, sports medicine or related field required.
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) and licensure by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.
One year experience as an athletic trainer at the high school level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to exhibit professional appearance, conduct, and behavior when representing Waubonsee Community College.
Preferred Qualifications
One year or more previous athletic training experience at a two-year or four-year collegiate program or professional athletic team experience.
Sports Performance Certification in any of the following:
- NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine)
- ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine)
- NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
- CFSC (Certified Functional Strength Coach)
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)
