Clinical Trials Clinician, Comparative Immunotherapy Program, Pathobiology Dept

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Open Date: May 20, 2024
Deadline:

The University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine Department of Pathobiology is seeking a talented, inquisitive, dedicated, and compassionate clinical trials clinician for either a Part-Time or Full-Time Clinical Associate position within the newly formed Comparative Immunotherapy Program (www.vet.upenn.edu/research/centers-laboratories/research-initiatives/comparative-immunotherapy-program). Clinical Associates are academic support staff who contribute to the service and teaching mission of the school.

The program focuses on the clinical care of small animal patients enrolled in immunotherapy clinical trials, with an emphasis on adoptive cellular therapies and antibody-based biologics, to treat cancer, autoimmunity, and infectious disease. The selected candidate will have strong clinical skills and will be involved with all aspects of running a clinical-translational research program. Excellent communication and team building skills are required. The successful candidate will spend at least 50% of their time in the small animal clinic where they will be actively involved in the implementation of fully approved clinical trial protocols, including clinical management of trial patients, sample collection, client communication, data analysis and manuscript and presentation preparation. The selected candidate will be an integral part of our comparative translational research team and will work closely in the clinic with a dedicated immunotherapy clinical trials nurse. They will gain practical experience in the use of a range of different immunotherapies either as monotherapies or in combination with other treatment modalities, utilizing the full range of capabilities in a large, well equipped, modern veterinary teaching hospital. Outside of the clinic, the successful candidate may receive training in cell-based immunotherapy technologies, next-generation immune cell engineering (performed by technicians within CIP), functional analysis of cellular products and assessment of correlative biomarkers of clinical response. Our clinical immunotherapy trials are supported by both federal and private funding sources and the successful candidate will have opportunities to publish their work, hone their skills in grant writing and present at national conferences. The position may be full-time or part-time and specific details are negotiable with the selected candidate.

Additional professional development benefits associated with the position include access to seminars, lectures and workshops across the Penn campus including within the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies (CCI) (www.med.upenn.edu/cci/) and beyond, and opportunities to attend and present at national conferences. A highly competitive salary that is commensurate with the level of experience is being offered. The veterinary hospital at the University of Pennsylvania is a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment with an excellent nursing staff and residents. The School is located amid a vibrant urban neighbourhood that offers an abundance of cultural resources including music, art, theatres, and fine dining (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn/philadelphia). Come and join our team and help bring the latest immunotherapeutic advances to our patient population!

Qualifications
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and must have completed at minimum, a one-year rotating internship. Candidates with a keen interest in immunotherapy and clinical medicine who have completed a US or international residency program in internal medicine, oncology emergency and critical care will be prioritized.
