SUMMARY: The Controller is responsible for overseeing financial planning, analysis, and reporting functions for the plant manufacturing unit. This role will manage the plant's accounting team, including responsibilities for production accounting and payroll. Key duties include preparing weekly operating variance forecasts, establishing policies and guidelines, and leading the budgeting process. A strong emphasis on collaboration with plant operations to drive continuous improvement and reduce overall operational costs is central to this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain cost accounting and financial analysis systems.
  • Ensure the accuracy of product costs, including base materials, ingredients, packaging, labor, overhead, production costs, and monthly manufacturing variances.
  • Oversee financial accounting and payroll systems, including payroll administration, timekeeping processes, and the development of internal controls to safeguard corporate assets.
  • Provide direction for internal and external financial reporting and forecasting processes.
  • Supervise activities such as plant performance reporting, production and inventory functions, cost savings/reduction analysis, and payroll/timekeeping processes.
  • Collaborate with headquarters, maintenance, operations, engineering, and materials management teams to strengthen business relationships.
  • Deliver thorough, accurate, and credible financial analysis to support plant operations.
  • Support Lean and Safety initiatives within the plant as appropriate.
  • Lead the development of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Long Range Plan (LRP), and projections/forecasts for weekly and monthly performance.
  • Establish and implement key controls for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CMA, MBA, and/or CPA preferred.

Experience: 4+ years of Financial Manufacturing experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally within the food industry. Strong understanding of standard costing, variance reporting, and cost accounting practices.

Technical Knowledge: Expertise in GAAP, cost accounting, fixed assets, general ledger accounting, payroll, and SOX compliance. Knowledge of procurement, production, and delivery processes, along with their profitability impacts.

Computer Skills: Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).

Special Skills: Strong leadership and critical thinking abilities. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Special Skills: Previous supervisory experience preferred.
