Job Summary

The Cost Engineer is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and executing cost reduction projects to improve profitability and competitiveness of the Power Switching and Distribution portfolio of products. The role requires frequent collaboration with engineering, testing, manufacturing, and procurement within the region to execute on the cost reduction projects while maintaining quality and functionality of the product. This role reports to the Director of Engineering.

This position will be based onsite at our Vertiv Delaware, OH location.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform product cost analysis and estimation for new product development projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, quality, and manufacturing, to manage product costs and optimize new product design.
  • Develop and execute plans to improve product cost through value add / value engineering (VAVE) projects.
  • Work with procurement to evaluate and qualify new or alternate suppliers as needed to achieve cost targets.
  • Work with manufacturing & engineering to reduce material usage and manufacturing cycle times of fabricated parts.
  • Work with industrialization team to ensure selection of best cost manufacturing locations, considering assembly cost, duties, and logistics.
  • Develop and execute test plans in support of component qualification in conjunction with the design validation team.
  • Track performance of value added / value engineered projects.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related technical field of study.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development & testing and/or cost improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated competence in complex problem solving, data analysis, & project management.
  • Ability to quickly develop and maintain cross-functional relationships to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to summarize technical data/results quickly for non-technical audiences.
  • Understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) for electrical/mechanical assemblies and cost implications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Smartsheet, and other business applications.
  • Experience with 3-phase power distribution or UPS systems is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with ability to summarize technical data/results quickly for non-technical audiences.
  • 80% sedentary desk work, 20% test/manufacturing floor work.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Travel as required, domestic and international, < 10%
