Position Title: Director, Health and Safety
Location: Dallas, TX
Your role
The Director of Health and Safety drives a positive Health & Safety culture within the company and does everything to prevent the occurrence of incidents. By implementing Health & Safety Rules & Regulations for internal and external stakeholders and ensuring the highest level of safety within Digital Realty.
You will have overall responsibility for Construction Health and Safety across AMER while working in close partnership with both internal and external customers. You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities to drive continuous improvements and monitors all related follow up activities.
What you'll do
- Responsible for the deployment and management of the Health and Safety management framework within the local sub regional organization following the corporate Health and Safety Strategic framework and guidelines.
- Develop a Health and Safety culture in the local organization, through training for health and safety matters and accident prevention, communications, and inspections. Through continuous learning and improvement
- Ensure Health and Safety support is provided for the identification, analysis, assessment and management of theHealth and Safety risks that are specifically applicable to operations and the interfaces with construction.
- Monitor and report theHealth and Safety aspects within the Construction team and department; actively drive measure to prevent incidents/accidents.
- Identify and prepare improvement programs related to Health and Safety.
- Ensure Health and Safety support for the development of key performance indicators to monitor activity progress.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Provide technical support/ guidance as necessary to accident/ incident investigation teams.
- Prepare audits and reports related to Health and Safety in conjunction with HQ requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining the relevant certifications.
- Bring to the attention of the Leadership Team any relevant new legislation.
- Immediately contact the Leadership Team if situations are found, that in the opinion of the H&S Manager, require immediate rectification or the stopping of any operation.
- Coaching / instructing / motivating staff to work according to the agreed guidelines.
- Responsible for Problem Management, gathering evidence, manage and monitor internal and external root cause investigations, assure that reported problems are handled according to company wide and local processes and procedures.
- Provide support to customers related to internal or external audits, as initiated and requested by (potential) customers.
- Assist in the implementation of the safe systems of work that will be rolled out to all countries.
- Ensure emergency response arrangements and procedures are maintained.
- Responsible for the direct reports own learning, development and continuous improvement, through audit and spot checks.
- Working closely with external partners, but be the main point of contact
What you'll need - Proven experience as a health and safety director in a construction or similar industry
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines both locally and globally
- Ability in producing reports and problem solving
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
- Previous experience in a similar role/environment is essential.
- Previous multi-site experience is required with extensive construction knowledge
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in a leading Health & Safety role in an industrial, critical environment (e.g. full continuous factory)
- Fluent in English, both in writing and orally
