The Gulf Coast Village Campus is part of Volunteers of America National Services which serves as the Housing and Healthcare affiliate of the Volunteers of America parent organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

To organize and direct social services functions through direct service with the resident and family throughout pre-admission and admission processes, resident adjustment, ongoing and discharge services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in social work or related degree in social sciences; licensed where applicable by the state; state requirements may dictate supervision and degree type.
  • Minimum of one year of social work experience, preferably in a long-term healthcare setting; knowledge of long-term healthcare and public health settings; familiarity with Federal and State regulations and requirements for long-term care.
  • Ability to read, speak and write fluently in English; excellent communication and phone skills; ability to prepare written assessments and correspondence; ability to read and interpret rules and regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, such as during evenings and weekends, for planned activities and special events, family meetings and conferences, and as necessary, to facilitate admission calls, admissions and tours. Manages "on-call" schedule with other social work staff by pre-arrangement to cover facility for weekends/evenings admissions per Executive Director.
  • Negotiation skills and ability to carry on several levels of reasoning at once during problem solving sessions; ability to think quickly and to write contracts and complex written arguments.
  • Ability to work with residents of varying levels of responsiveness.
  • Familiarity with word processing, data processing and computer entry skills to match existing clinical management software at facility.
  • Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in planning departmental objectives, keeping work records and schedules, preparing budgets, requisitioning supplies, and monitoring inventory control.
  • Ability to apply principles of personnel administration to interviewing, selection and supervision of employees, and in monitoring department activities.
  • Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.

  • Leads and directs Social Service Department.
  • Develops a mission and direction for the department itself, participates in goal setting and direction activities with the Executive Director.
  • Attends and participates in management committee meetings to represent department.
  • Manages and directs activities of department in accordance with Volunteers of America National Services' policies and procedures and guidelines.
  • Uses Volunteers of America National Services policy manual.
  • Uses Volunteers of America National Services forms and processes.
  • Seeks guidance of Executive Director in policy decisions.
  • Coordinates resident admissions.
  • Takes pre-admission calls and manages a waiting list as necessary.
