The Wearables Input Explorations team is looking for a creative and experienced engineering leader with strong people management skills, technical expertise in the domain of input & interaction, either from games, input devices, consumer devices, or other interactive systems. We're seeking somebody passionate about advancing the boundaries of input for a new generation of wearable devices, who flourishes working in an ambiguous technology space. The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineering manager with a background in novel input and controls, user interfaces, or gameplay systems. We want people who work well in teams; can brainstorm big ideas; have great product sense; work in ambiguous technology areas; have an eye for detail, and are comfortable working on a variety of software systems and wearing a lot of hats. In this role you will support a diverse and talented team of software engineers and HCI research scientists working on novel input technologies and the fundamental interaction patterns via which users will engage with Meta products. More broadly you will collaborate with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of software engineers, ML scientists, designers, and user researchers with access to advanced technology, resources, and testing facilities. Engineering Manager, Wearables Input Exploration Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of software engineers and HCI research science working future-looking input technologies and interaction patterns
- Collaborate across disciplines with neuroscientists, machine learning experts, designers and user researchers to unlock and perfect new capabilities to build interactions upon
- Engage with partner teams and communicate cross-functionally to drive research and engineering efforts
- Create career development plans, manage performance, and conduct performance reviews
- Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with research, engineering, and leadership teams
- Help the team scale effectively: identify, recruit, interview, and hire new engineers
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years as an engineering leader in game development (or multiple shipped games), input devices, or interactive systems
- Wide knowledge of software development practices and and knowledge of when and how to apply them to teams
- Expertise adapting to various communication and work styles
- Demonstrated history of working well with cross-functional teams and organizations
- Experience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and/or discussion within the team
- Expertise growing and mentoring teams
- 2+ years of management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with input devices such as touch screens, game controllers, or prototypes
- Experience with Unity, Unreal, or equivalent 3D game engine
- Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript/React
- Experience with Python/Numpy/Jupyter
