JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage and other supply chain management services, including consulting, the coordination of purchase orders and customized management services.
This position is responsible for the Corporate Reporting Pillar and reporting of JAS Forwarding USA to internal and external information users. Incumbent will ensure accuracy and proper care of company's financial documents and reports. He/she will plan, coordinate and direct activities related to financial reporting, as well as manage and lead the Corporate Accounting staff. Accurate and timely financial information and services will be provided to key users and decision makers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure department processes are regularly reviewed for efficiency, and document all SOPs.
- Oversee the monthly and year-end financial closing process by preparing and reviewing adjusting entries and financial reports.
- Oversee the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliation process to ensure accurate representation of the company's financial performance.
- Oversee annual external audit, manage information requests and confirmations.
- Assist with annual insurance renewals as needed, and work with Worldwide Risk Team as requested.
- Review, prepare analytical reports on a monthly or as needed basis, and make recommendations to Branch Management.
- Manage and/or help to lead senior and staff accountants, with responsibility for financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, banking, tax and business license reporting, payroll accounting, fixed assets and lease accounting, accounts payable and internal re-billing.
- Ensure state and local tax filings are prepared and taxes are paid for all revenue centers as required.
- Represent JAS when needed in transactions with external parties, such as government agencies, staffing agencies, vendors, etc.
- Assist with special projects and implementations as needed.
MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The incumbent will directly and/or indirectly supervise one or more employees.
- Perform annual performance reviews, develop team and individual goals, and provide coaching as necessary to staff.
- Ensure financial reporting team is properly staffed and perform interviews and training as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Able to perform the essential duties of this position without posing a "direct threat" to the health or safety of self or others.
- Able to interact positively and effectively with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS or BA in Finance or Accounting is mandatory. Graduate degree in related field or CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in full range accounting, with 3-5 being supervisory.
- Proficient in ERP systems for mid-sized companies.
- Advanced-level Excel skills (building complex workbooks utilizing large data manipulation skills).
