Job Description:
JOB DUTIES: Work with the Assistant Division Administrator - Fisheries Research Section to develop, coordinate and implement research projects addressing applied fisheries management questions in irrigation reservoirs and other aquatic systems statewide. Initial emphasis will be placed on ongoing research associated with the Harlan County Reservoir fisheries, Lake McConaughy and Lake Ogallala. Design, direct and coordinate applied fisheries field studies, analyze and interpret management and research data and present results from such studies. Provide budget recommendations for research projects and determine the best methods for obtaining reservoir research and management data. Serve as liaison with other divisions within the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, as well as other stakeholders and partners regarding fisheries and aquatic resource management and research in Nebraska irrigation reservoirs. Prepare technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presentations at professional meetings. Prepare and submit grants requesting outside funding in support of research on irrigation reservoirs and other aquatic systems. Prepare or assist in the preparation of magazine articles, news releases and video programs to increase public knowledge of and support for fisheries projects. Prepare documents and reports to satisfy Federal Aid requirements and to keep administration and other agencies advised of project progress and findings. Perform related work as required.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:Post high school coursework/training with major coursework in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field of biological science plus four years experience in fish or wildlife resource management or master's degree plus two years experience; or Ph.D. plus one year of experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Applicants must possess up-to-date professional knowledge of principles and practices of fisheries management, fisheries research and planning methods, aquatic ecology, statistical methods and procedures, population dynamics and taxonomy. Ability to communicate effectively; set and articulate clear goals and objectives; evaluate and analyze fisheries research needs and develop and implement recommendations for improvement; supervise the work of others; maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local officials, other agencies' personnel, university faculty and the public.
