Job Purpose:Reporting to the Assistant Director of Grounds/Custodial Services, the Groundskeeping Lead performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and improvement of university grounds and directs the daily activities of a groundskeeping crew.
Job Summary:- Delegates, oversees and performs assigned duties, including mowing, edging, eliminating weeds/grass, trimming, maintaining flower beds, vine removal and other grounds-related tasks.
- Performs daily inspections and reports grounds issues, such as dead grass, tree damage, etc.
- Maintains and makes minor adjustments to equipment; informs supervisor when repairs are needed.
- Monitors materials and notifies supervisor of needed supplies.
- Assigns litter control areas to crew members and inspects each area every Friday afternoon to ensure the campus is neat and trash-free.
- Practices and instructs crew in safe use of equipment and chemicals and ensures crew members use university-provided safety equipment.
- Assists other crews with equipment and labor as needed.
- High school diploma.
- One year of experience in commercial/institutional grounds maintenance.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience as a groundskeeping lead or supervisor.
- Valid pesticide license or ability to obtain after employment.
- General knowledge of the practice and procedures of grounds maintenance.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
- Ability to lead and effectively guide subordinates in daily tasks.
- Ability to perform manual labor and work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and operate all types of grounds maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, weed eaters, backpack blowers, hand blowers, etc.
Occasional after-hours and weekend work.
