Job Summary / Basic Function:

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:The Instructor for Humanities' responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in Humanities/Fine Arts (along with other related courses and topics) in the General Education and Developmental Studies Department, including dual credit high school students. The Instructor will teach a broad-based humanities course that explores the purpose and processes in the visual and performing arts (music, painting, architecture, drama, and dance) and the ways in which they express the values of cultures and human experience. This individual is also responsible for maintaining office hours; and teaching extended day classes, and hybrid/online courses, as required, both on campus and at alternate locations. This individual helps coordinate and attend advisory committee meetings; attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; assists in the development of curriculum, as needed; and maintain program computer labs. All LIT faculty are responsible for recruitment and retention as a part of achieving the Institute's Shared Vision of Growth and Excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively engage students in the learning process
  • Maintain ethical and professional behavior
  • Maintain knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS and LIT Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Participate in college service, which includes but is not limited to, committee work, advising and/or tutoring students, and recruiting
  • Teach classes during the fall and spring semesters as required by the department (might include day, evening, weekend, and Early College High School/dual credit); including online courses
  • Provide mentorship to dual credit partners/mentees
  • Attend Teaching and Learning Center sessions to enhance teaching skills
  • Stay abreast of national matters and trends in education
  • Participate in assessment activities for the LIT Core Curriculum
  • Assist in the development of curriculum as needed
  • Perform other related duties, as required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Master's degree in Humanities/Fine Arts or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Humanities/Fine Arts
  • Two years (or more) of work experience in Humanities or related field
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Possess good time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:

PREFERRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Related field and/or industry certifications
  • Doctorate degree in subject area

Commensurate
