International Student and Scholar Services at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an International Data Management Specialist.

Primary Position Function/Summary:

Manage data for international students and scholars to ensure compliance with federal regulations associated with the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and provide statistical information for the University and related off-campus entities.

Statement of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University of Illinois F-1 and J-1 programs and conduct ongoing tracking, eForm processing, and reporting tasks as required by SEVIS. Keep abreast of laws, regulations and policies associated with federal compliance with SEVP.
  • Maintain data integrity and accuracy in the Sunapsis software program. Develop knowledge of Sunapsis database structure and its specific technical aspects including how to troubleshoot or resolve issues and correct errors
  • Create statistical reports for the unit, other University offices, and national organizations.
  • Assist with creation and maintenance of e-forms in Sunapsis database; manage access to Sunapsis database and e-forms for staff across campus and assist with basic troubleshooting related to access and submission.
  • Consult with Division of Management Information and/or Technology Services for basic database related issues, including troubleshooting. Participate in discussions about data management policies and issues and provide feedback about issues and processes.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training, and/or work experience in Data Software programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical reporting, spreadsheets, and querying databases. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to fulfill DSO and/or ARO duties.
Preferred: (Successful candidates will have):
  • Demonstrated experience at an intermediate to advance level with MS Excel.
  • Familiarity with federal immigration rules applying to F-1 and J-1 students.
  • Experience with Banner and Sunapsis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of University academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Capable of working independently using discretion, handle confidential matters, manage complex multi-task projects, and scrupulous attention to detail in coordinating database and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:

This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is in March 2025. The salary for this position is competitive and based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity within Illinois International. The budgeted salary range is $45,000 to $55,000.

Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays , 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year.
