Purpose of Job:

The International Logistics Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day activities of all international and domestic related transportation functions for Interstate Batteries (IB), its suppliers, distributors, and customers. The primary focus will be the coordination of all logistics activities associated with supplier and customer orders for Latin America and Canada.

Job Components:

  • Coordinate and work closely with international freight forwarders, carriers, origin/destination management partners, and customs brokers to ensure proper communication, arrangement, and execution for inbound ocean container shipments into foreign countries.
  • Proactively monitor all shipments during transit to ensure timely delivery and work with freight forwarders/carriers to mitigate exceptions.
  • Communicate information about shipping quotes, costs, shipment status, ETA, and delivery confirmation to customers and internal stakeholders (purchasing, sales teams, distribution centers, etc..). Act as the primary liaison between carriers, distributors, and all stakeholders.
  • Maintain, develop, and monitor monthly scorecards (service, cost, transit time) and financials to report against performance expectations.
  • Schedule and track inbound and outbound shipments according to customers' requirements, ensuring on-time deliveries.
  • Create/review import/export-related shipping documents and maintain records and processes for International and Canadian cross-border shipments.
  • Obtain and negotiate rates with service providers (Freight Forwarders, carriers, etc.) through requests for proposals(s) (RFPs) and miscellaneous spot quotes.
  • Support ground/ocean/parcel/domestic and international freight forwarding transportation sourcing events/capacity commitments in coordination with internal customers and external service providers.
  • Responsible for ensuring routes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet organizational and customer expectations.
  • Conduct analysis to determine optimal transportation solutions as needed to meet customer requirements and minimize costs.
  • Obtain freight quotes for ground/ocean/parcel/domestic and international freight forwarding shipments and provide options to the Team when needed.
  • Assist with domestic transportation activities including financial analysis and metric development.
  • Support the development and day-to-day management of freight payment auditing and solutions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify, evaluate, and quantify opportunities for operational enhancements and implement solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency, i.e., KPIs and metrics.
  • Take on additional duties and responsibilities in the larger transportation group, as needed.

Qualifications:
  • 1-2+ years of logistics, transportation, warehousing administration experience, or a related field.
  • College degree preferred, a concentration in logistics or supply chain management is a plus, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency is required.
  • Proficient understanding of logistics processes, transportation methods, and inventory management.
  • Basic knowledge of using logistics software and systems concerning logistics and transportation (i.e., SAP, TMS, WMS, etc).
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of international trade compliance including import/export regulations and customs processes.
  • Familiarity with transportation documentation including Billing of Lading (BOL) and commercial and customs forms.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with a variety of internal and external contacts and various stakeholders, providing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to prioritize and manage tasks effectively.
  • Meticulous with a focus on accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities to address challenges and improve shipping performance.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure with professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Scope Data:
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining transportation services for IB network, including coordinating international shipments from our supplier in South Korea to our 12+ distributors in Central and South America.
  • Maintain all clerical work necessary for the position: filing, invoicing, updating rates, reporting, audits, and data entry.
  • Work closely with transportation providers (carriers, 3PL partners, etc.) to ensure timely movement of shipments and create documentation (i.e., BOL and commercial and customs documents) as required, including shipments and documentation for Canada.
  • Interact professionally with customers, suppliers, distributors, providers, and cross-functional Team Members.
  • Utilize resources efficiently to support international logistics and transportation.

Work Environment:
  • Role location is hybrid and provides flexibility: work-from-home and time in the office (Dallas).
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move 10+Ibs.
  • Extensive use of computer and phone.
  • Open office environment.
  • Some travel may be required.
