POSITION SUMMARY:The Laboratory Glassware Washer will wash laboratory glassware and maintain cleanliness of laboratory and equipment. In addition, may perform incidental functions of Laboratory Assistants. Work is initially done under direct supervision and then periodically spot-checked.
Examples of specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:Pick-up and delivery of glassware for a specific group of laboratories daily Ensure labeling of each item and maintenance of accurate recordsCleaning glassware by hand or by STERIS washing/drying machineAutoclave all glassware for the prescribed amount of time and seal the openings with aluminum foil to preserve sterilityEnsure glassware equipment is used to its full capacityEnsure glassware is kept clean and in their proper location Act as a backup to other Clack Center glassware washersCleaning of apparatus and equipmentGeneral clean-up of laboratory, sterilizing media, reagents, instruments, etc.
This is a 50% FTE, benefits-eligible position. All final candidates must complete a background check.
CORE DUTIES:Wash laboratory glassware using a variety of methods: handwashing, machine washing, acid cleaning, boiling, autoclaving, etc.Perform miscellaneous laboratory duties such as cleaning of apparatus and equipment, general clean-up of laboratory, sterilizing media, reagents, instruments, etc.May perform incidental functions of the Laboratory Assistant I.Adhere to safety rules.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience:A minimum of high school diploma and some familiarity with a laboratory environment helpful but not required. Will be trained to do this work.
Preferred Requirements:Six months of laboratory glass-washing experience strongly preferred, including knowledge of the use of industrial washers and autoclaves.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to follow detailed oral and/or written instructions (both verbal and written instructions).Manual dexterity sufficient to perform the characteristic duties.Habits of cleanliness and neatness.Demonstrated punctuality and consistent attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:Manual dexterity to perform assigned tasks.Write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.Frequently stand/walk, perform seated work, operate special machinesOccasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, light fine grasping.Lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.Rarely help move heavier items (e.g., chairs or lab equipment; packages of supplies; drums containing 2 to 15 gallons, depending on ability.In some Glassware Washing operations, occasionally may pull a wheeled Glassware cart that weighs approximately 100 pounds.Ability to open and close an autoclave door

Depending on research, Lab Assistants may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses or hazardous materials. The expected pay range for this position is $26.05 (Step 1) to $31.34 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
