GENERAL SUMMARY:
Working very independently, performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures. Participates in the design and modification of research protocols. Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives. Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts. Performs advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques. Responsible for the oversight and coordination of the scheduling of all procedures. Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques. Monitors budget and participates in preparation.

Qualifications
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Independently performs non-routine, highly specialized experimental procedures.
2. Participates in the design and modification of research protocols.
3. Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives.
4. Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts.
5. Performs advanced data analysis using advanced statistical techniques.
6. Responsible for the oversight and coordination of all lab activities, including quality assurance.
7. Responsible for the oversight and coordination of the scheduling of all procedures.
8. Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
9. If entry level research staff is present, responsible for supervising staff in the lab, including hiring, firing, evaluation and discipline.
10. In collaboration with Research Manager and/or PI, participates in budget and grant development and preparation.
11. All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
BS in biological/physical science required, Master's Degree preferred.
Requires 3-5 years of directly related progressively more responsible experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQURIED:

  • Ability to make independent effective decisions.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train staff.
  • Advanced database management and overall computer skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to problem solve effectively.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • A broad knowledge of scientific principles, biological structures and lab techniques.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for supervising staff including hiring, firing, evaluating and disciplining. Will train, orient, educate and assess the competency of staff. Allocates work and coordinates staffing and scheduling.
