Job Description

Position Summary

The Lead Technician will perform machine setup, equipment/product change overs, troubleshoot equipment performance problems and assist lower-level Technicians with machine adjustments. Work as liaison between manufacturing and maintenance, create maintenance work orders, constantly improve skill level in production maintenance to keep up with advances in technology and automation in the production processes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Make repairs to production equipment utilizing the following skill sets: controls, drawings, electrical, general mechanics, hand tools, hydraulics, machine shop, piping systems, PLC knowledge, pneumatics, RF, troubleshooting, welding, and programming.
  • Support major PM's activities on production equipment on an as needed basis and to support plant shutdown activities.
  • Assist with equipment startups after extended downtimes or change overs.
  • Perform daily equipment checks to ensure equipment is ready for production use.
  • Effectively and efficiently troubleshoot production equipment/process and make adjustment to minimize downtime and increase productivity.
  • Effectively communicate verbal and/or written information/issues, to supervisor/manager and peers in a professional manner regarding equipment repairs or problems.
  • Institute immediate corrective action to prevent defective product from being manufactured and to reduce potential high-dollar material losses.
  • Perform all functions of all Technician levels.
  • Maintain responsibility for workflow, production, training of new employees and answering job-related questions.
  • Recommend advancements; implement new or changed procedures.
  • Provide leadership for daily operations and technical assistance to other groups.
  • Ensure efficient shift hand-off and communication.
  • Serve as a resource and coach to other Technicians in area; model company values and support strategic initiatives.
  • This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including knowledge of all standards, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes related to the site).
  • Engage others; promote and participate in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

  • Strong mechanical ability and analytical skills.

  • Ability to learn new technologies; understand and perform continuous improvement activities.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma, or GED with 8 to 10 years of manufacturing experience; Technical Certificate with 5 to 7 years of experience; or Associate's Degree with 3 to 5 years of experience.
Work Environment
  • Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment.
  • Work in shop/maintenance area.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., unassisted, be able to lift and move equipment/parts up to 600 lbs., assisted.
  • Must be able to utilize full range of leg, arm, and hand motion for utilizing hand tools and maintaining equipment.
  • Must be able to climb greater than 10 feet, work at heights, and work in confined spaces utilizing respirator (if required) and fall protection equipment.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, kneel or squat for extended periods of time while working on equipment.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
