About the Position:

This position supports the SMU mail room in the daily operations to process mail and packages.

Essential Functions:

  • Sort daily mail and packages from the USPS, UPS, FedEx and other carriers to the appropriate locations within the post office. Pick up USPS mail as needed.
  • Meter mail. Run the postage meter for all outbound mail.
  • Operate the Point of Sale system in the post office.
  • Assist in processing in bound copy orders.
  • Maintain and complete minor repairs to mailing equipment.
  • Backup responsibilities include pick up of USPS mail and if both couriers are out knowing the campus courier routes to be able to deliver and pickup mail.
  • Shelve and pull packages as requested for student pick up.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Candidate with customer service experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate with knowledge of MS Excel (or other spreadsheet/database software) is strongly preferred. Candidate that possess strong customer service skills is required. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

The SMU Post Office operates Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm and on weekends from 10am to 2pm. Employees may be scheduled during those hours of operation.
