The University of Miami Health System at Doral has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Technologist 1 with a hire date of June 2024.

The University of Miami Health System will soon open the second phase to our state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Doral that serves as a western hub for our distinguished regional network of ambulatory services. This 160,000 square foot expansion will continue to bring world-class academic medicine, cutting-edge technology, and innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing Doral community. UHealth at Doral will have services through the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and the Desai Sethi Urology Institute, as well as specialties such as cardiology, endocrinology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology, dermatology, and more. The expansion will provide residents with innovative, specialized medical services in the heart of their community. Once complete, UHealth at Doral will have 8 operating rooms, 3 endoscopy procedure rooms, 33 cancer treatment bays, over 60 multidisciplinary exam rooms, and supporting ancillary services like imaging, lab, and respiratory therapy. UHealth at Doral will open in September 2024.

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for Medical Technologist 1. The Medical Technologist performs Hematology, Flow Cytometry, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Microbiological, Molecular biological and Immunological clinical tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Moreover, the incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance.

  • Verifies identification of specimen with physicians' orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
  • Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results.
  • Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
  • Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
  • Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
  • Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
  • Assumes lead duties and acts as a resource to staff.
  • Orients and trains employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Certification and State License in relevant specialty or field
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
