General summary/overview statement:
Under the general supervision of the Nursing Director and the Medical Director, the Staff Nurse functions as an ambulatory practice nurse for the Cardiovascular Medicine Service. The Staff Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for ensuring patient-centered nursing care in the ambulatory care setting. They will collaborate with attending physicians, mid-level practitioners, administrative support staff, and other members of the patient care team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
- Triages phone calls from patients, families, providers, etc.; responds to clinical related communications, as directed.
- Contacts patients to update medication reconciliation lists; supports management of prescription refills; and handles insurance prior authorization of medications.
- Conducts insurance prior authorization of diagnostic testing and procedures.
- Tracks, collects, and reviews outpatient test results; reviews abnormal results with supervising physician/mid-level practitioner; and informs patient of test results and clinical impact/plan.
- Completes various medical and administrative forms, e.g. disability, VNA documentation.
- Assists with clinical instruction for patients, e.g. medication teaching.
- Supports administrative operations by acting as a clinical liaison to administrative support staff.
- Maintains and follows patient care protocols.
- Performs other duties, as directed.
Skills/abilities/competencies required:
- § Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
- § Ability to problem-solve, function as a resource to other members of the team and resolves complex issues on behalf of providers and patients.
- § Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility to manage multiple tasks and attention to detail.
- § Knowledge of computer applications necessary to function in an ambulatory setting, e.g. MS Outlook, MS Office Suite.
- § Comfort in a practice environment that promotes patient-centered care.
Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelors Degree preferred
- Registered Nurse, Massachusetts licensure
- Current BLS certification
- Relevant professional experience in cardiology
- Bilingual (English/Spanish speaking), strongly preferred
Working conditions:Office and outpatient care environments.
