Job Description Summary

The primary role of this position is support of supervision in managing and directing shift operations. Individuals must demonstrate effective and positive leadership skills. This position assists in administering company plans, policies, and procedures. Under the direction of the supervisor, this position is responsible for the operation of the receiving, processing and packaging areas. This position is responsible for optimizing productivity and maintaining target quality and sanitation levels. Must have knowledge of plant safety, personal hygiene and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) and assist in administering these policies. Must also be familiar with the general make up of potatoes, processing techniques, and lab procedures.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
  • Promotes safe work practices and assures that safe work practices are followed in all work groups.
  • Must be able to perform job functions independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to cooperate with other hourly employees and salaried personnel in a positive manner.
  • Monitor quality of incoming raw product.
  • Monitors volumes and quality attributes on a regular basis.
  • Change grader screens as necessary to maintain product quality levels and maximize recovery.
  • Assures adequate supplies are made available.
  • Assists in training of employees.
  • Completes forms as required in an accurate and legible manner.
  • Monitors product flow during defrost and unscheduled breaks in the line.
  • Assures package compliance for each label.
  • Controls bulk inventories by blending and upgrading product whenever possible to achieve maximum recovery.
  • Monitors bulk inventories and assures proper usage.
  • Understands grader screen set-up and standard operating principles.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Ability to operate packaging equipment.
  • Understands palletizer operator, manifest operator, bulk operator and packaging operator job functions and to be capable of training employees in those functions.
  • Understands process techniques and tests to assure maximum of process operation.
  • Ability to perform weekend cleanup procedures.
  • Must be able to work any shift, overtime, and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

A.A. from community college; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees in the organization. Must be able to communicate effectively by two-way radio and telephone.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and compute percentages in all units of measure.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Must be able to operate the following: telephone, 2-way radio, squeegee, shovel, hot hose, and high pressure hose. Must have knowledge of industrial chemicals, i.e. Bolt, Chlorine, Caustic, etc.

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $28.84
