The Philanthropy Coordinator works within a team of development professionals to maintain and grow a portfolio of emerging major gift donors and prospects. This team member will work with individuals, corporations, and foundations with a demonstrated interest in Shepherd Center to increase their engagement level and financial support. The Philanthropy Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of all Shepherd Impact Council activities, leveraging the counsel and support of the Director of Philanthropy and the Senior Philanthropy Officer. This role provides an opportunity to broaden knowledge of fundraising approaches. This position is expected to contribute to team fundraising results while building long term, meaningful donor relationships.

This position reports to the Senior Philanthropy Officer.

  • Responsible for developing, cultivating, stewarding and expanding relationships with current and prospective Shepherd Center donors with a capacity for additional engagement.
  • Partner with department leadership to develop an outreach and solicitation strategy to reach this donor/prospect population.
  • Understand and execute moves management strategies and actively solicit significant gifts and grants through annual solicitations, in-person visits, written proposals and grant requests.
  • Provide donors with regular stewardship updates and progress reports on Shepherd Center.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of all Shepherd Impact Council activities, including planning Board meetings and managing members.
  • Partner with Prospect Research team to discover new foundation prospects throughout the country with an affinity for Shepherd Center's mission.
  • Lead and support individual and/or group tours of the hospital with current and prospective Shepherd Center donors.
  • Meet and exceed agreed to goals for donor visits, solicitations and funds raised each fiscal year.
  • Complete all necessary documentation pertaining to solicitation activities, financial accounting and donor/prospect profiles in database.
  • Participate in goal and priority setting for the Philanthropy team.
  • Partner with Foundation team to plan and execute as-needed patient and family activities that support donor/prospect cultivation.
  • Coordinate with volunteer leaders, including board members, event chairs and other hospital volunteer groups to support the growth of Shepherd Center's donor base.
  • Participate in the production of fundraising-related collateral, including but not limited to campaign case statements, cultivation/solicitation of emerging major gifts, and special stewardship materials.
  • Support or lead the planning and implementation of donor cultivation and recognition special events and activities.
  • Work closely with the Shepherd Center Foundation Donor Relations and Stewardship team to support the identification of prospective donors through volunteer organizations and special events.
  • Maintain strong Shepherd Center relationships and stay apprised of current programs and strategic vision and direction of the hospital. Actively participate in the community life of the hospital.
  • Represent Shepherd Center in the community through appropriate civic or business philanthropic associations/organizations, and leverage community network for greater Shepherd visibility and philanthropic reach.
  • Maintain highest confidentiality of patient population, donor records and prospect research.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to sustain and grow knowledge of philanthropic trends and expertise.
  • Lead and support special Foundation projects and committees as needed
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION :
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university.
REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION:
  • No professional certifications required.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising preferred.
REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS:
  • Work history should illustrate increased level of responsibility.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Display excellent interpersonal skills and a comfort level interacting with new people.
  • Computer literacy, including knowledge of database and prospect research; proficiency in MS Office products and knowledge of Raiser's Edge (or comparable) database.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity with Atlanta philanthropic and community leaders is preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Lifting boxes or other items under 50 lbs. as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Some travel by car or air can be expected with occasional overnight stays out of town.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
