The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Post-Doctoral researcher to work in Miami, Florida.
The goal of this position is to investigate the impact of ocean observations on hurricane predictions in the Gulf of Mexico. The appointee will join the ocean modeling team at the Physical Oceanography Division of the NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). The incumbent is expected to: (1) Contribute to improvements in the data assimilation system configuration; (2) Perform ocean and coupled Observing System Experiments (OSEs) to assess the impact of ocean observations in the Gulf of Mexico on the ocean and on hurricane forecasts. The position is supported by a large National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) initiative aimed at investigating the Gulf of Mexico dynamics through observations and modeling. The appointee will work closely with partners at the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA/AOML and at the Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) of the U.S. National Weather Service, as well as partners from the NASEM initiative.
