General Description:

The Professor of Psychology at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility for supporting student learning by providing quality instruction. Quality instruction includes clear course objectives, prepared and relevant class activities, effective and understandable presentations of learning materials, fair and understandable grading practices, timely responses to students and the creation of a positive classroom atmosphere.

Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of the curricula, participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program, participating in the assessment of general education outcomes for the college, developing a plan for professional development, participating on college committees, working as a team member to support the department, encouraging student success and promoting the mission of the Department of Psychology, Division of Social Sciences, and Oklahoma City Community College.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in Psychology or related field

Prior higher education teaching experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs used in the department and on campus (such Moodle and Microsoft Office);

Flexible teaching style to accommodate diverse learning styles and teaching modalities (including online and face-to-face);

Committed to helping students achieve their goals to be successful and attain a college education;

Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups;
Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers;

Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit;

Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing;

Be organized and attentive to detail.

Ability and interest in teaching concurrent classes at area high schools.

Demonstrated positive human relations and communications skills;

Agreeable to meet stated expectations such as being available during office hours and providing means of communication with supervisor(s) and/or the department or division office;

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently move about the classroom to assist students and perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to work with classroom and lab equipment and/or to instruct or assist students.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office/classroom equipment and mobile devices to prepare instructional documents, answer email correspondence, and complete other activities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position performs the essential functions in an indoor, classroom or office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior teaching experience at the community college level.

Ph.D., Ed.D. or Psy.D.

Online and/or web-enhanced course development and delivery experience may be considered.

Experience teaching in alternative formats (e.g., Zoom, hybrid, online, synchronous remote)

Work Hours:

This is a full-time position. Teaching schedules can include online, days, nights, and/or weekends, and may include concurrent offerings at area high schools. Required institutional activities (other than attendance at commencement) usually occur in the classic eight-to-five Monday through Friday work week.

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

A faculty member is primarily responsible for supporting student learning by providing quality instruction in courses that the faculty member and the chair/dean agree will be taught.Quality instruction includes clear course objectives, effective course management practices, prepared and relevant class activities, effective and understandable presentations of learning materials, substantive instruction and interaction with students, fair and understandable grading practices (credit classes only), timely responses to students, and a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
OCCC utilizes a master course outline for our classes that includes objectives, homework, instructor discretionary assignments, and proctored exams which faculty are expected to follow.
In addition to the primary responsibility for supporting student learning, a faculty member is expected to:

Be available to students by maintaining posted office hours and flexibility in meeting students online and in-person as needed.Maintain a flexible schedule to meet program and department needs.Be able to integrate into and work well as a team member in an instructional environment.Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program and department.Participate in the assessment of general education outcomes for the college.Manage program and course curricula by helping select textbooks, evaluating learning materials, and writing course syllabi.Design, revise, and manage master courses.
Contribute to developing, implementing, and evaluating approved academic programs and developing new academic programs to meet community needs.Fulfill course, program, and department goals and objectives.

Full-time faculty will be expected to teach 2000 level courses.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
