Job Summary:

The Program Director of Graduate Success and Retention leads and manages the delivery of an exceptional and transformative graduate student experience and supports retention and degree attainment across all graduate programs in the College of Liberal Arts. The Program Director is responsible for student recruitment, enrollment, and matriculation to meet or exceed the college and university's goals. They also partner in new program development, monitor the health of existing programs, keep records of student progress and funding, and provide data-driven recommendations for improving graduate student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Coordinate all College of Liberal Arts graduate programs.
  • Oversee policies and procedures related to graduate studies.
  • Support the Associate Dean for Education to convene regular meetings with graduate advisors to develop strategies for graduate student success.
  • Provide support for graduate students.
  • In coordination with the Associate Dean for Education, serve as college representative in graduate matters and liaise with the Graduate School.
Data-Development and Record-Keeping
  • Develop robust data and records to inform decision-making related to graduate student success.
  • Support departments in providing and monitoring disbursement of graduate student funding. Run enrollment reports in order to support enrollment forecasting.
  • Track graduation rates and post-graduation placement/employment.
Program Development and Health In coordination with the Associate Dean for Education, oversee graduate programs across the college.
  • Improve the quality of graduate programs and increase enrollment.
  • Develop programming to benefit graduate students across the college.
  • Dispense graduate student travel and research funding and scholarships.
Recruitment
  • Assist departments in the development of recruitment strategies for graduate students.
  • Create new programs or initiatives to increase graduate student enrollment to meet or exceed college and university's goals.
  • Assist in development of promotional materials/advertisement for graduate education.
Advising Organize and lead annual graduate orientation.
  • Advise graduate students on academic and professional matters.
  • Manage and resolve graduate student grievances and serve as appeal for departmental decisions on grade grievances and dismissals.
Graduation Organize and lead MA graduation ceremony.
  • Monitor graduate student academic progress towards timely graduation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in any liberal arts field or related degree and minimum of two (2) years of experience in recruiting, advising or administrative leadership in higher education; OR six (6) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in any Liberal Arts fields with four (4) years experience in recruiting, advising, or administrative leadership in higher education or (10) years experience with demonstrated success.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to design, implement, manage, and analyze projects and programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of trends and issues in higher education, particularly related to graduate education in the liberal arts.
  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum and academic initiatives.
  • Experience with grant seeking or development.
  • Knowledge of university regulations regarding student progress toward graduation, graduation requirements, academic eligibility requirements.
  • Full command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with software used by the institution is preferred: SharePoint, MyMav, SAS.
Other Requirements :

  • Ability to walk around facilities to survey use and needs.
