Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)


Salary: $55,200 - $58,000


The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), housed within International Education and Global Affairs (IEGA) at Binghamton University (SUNY) seeks an enthusiastic candidate for a full-time calendar year position of ISSS Programming Coordinator and Student Support Specialist.


The ISSS Programming Coordinator and Student Support Specialist, who reports directly to the Associate Director for International Student and Scholar Services, will work with a team of colleagues within International Education and Global Affairs (IEGA) and across campus to ensure the success of more than 2,100 enrolled international students and exchange visitors from more than 100 countries by creating, administering, and assessing the outcomes of programs designed to support our international population, as well as providing an opportunity for interaction, partnership, and outreach across campus.


Responsibilities:


Program Development and Implementation


  • Work collaboratively with IEGA colleagues and collaborative partners on the development and implementation of social, intercultural, and informative programs/workshops, including yet not limited to serving as the lead presenter/facilitator and coordinating logistics for events.
  • Coordinate ongoing ISSS programs, including the monthly International Coffee Hour, Global Networking Group, and Friendship Family Program.
  • Serve as the primary logistical planner for New International Student Orientation.
  • Coordinate Online International Student Orientation, including creating content in collaboration with ISSS colleagues, editing and captioning videos, adding students to electronic platform, monitoring student participation, and assessing data.
  • Create and promote new programming initiatives for reaching new students, including pre-arrival webinars and post-arrival programs.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Director on scheduling and staff support for all program offerings.
  • Ensure well-orchestrated, professional, safe, and successful programs and learning opportunities for all participants. Support university retention and student support goals through programming initiatives.
  • Actively engage with international student clubs and organizations and seek opportunities for further collaborations with student-led initiatives.

Communication and Assessment


  • Assemble and distribute the monthly newsletter and time-sensitive email announcements.
  • Publicize programming opportunities to appropriate constituencies on campus and in the community by serving as the manager of ISSS social media.
  • Update ISSS website content related to programming, events, and campus and community resources.
  • Create informational presentations in an array of mediums (PowerPoint; Google Slides, etc.)
  • Create and edit flyers and other publications for ISSS orientations and programs.
  • Maintain robust data reporting for ISSS programming, including quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports as needed. Submit annual Weave report detailing ISSS initiatives.

Office Support


  • Provide support to overall functions of the office, including corresponding and communicating with international students and scholars on a variety of issues associated with their status at the university. Provide back-up support to the ISSS front desk as needed.
  • Work with leadership to brainstorm, implement, and assess staff development trainings, retreats, and appreciation events.
  • Represent ISSS on campus committees and at campus events.
  • Supervise a Graduate Student Assistant for 20 hours per week.

Note: this position will require occasional evening and weekend hours as needed to implement programs and events.



Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience
  • Effective problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to take appropriate initiative
  • Evidence of strong organizational abilities and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume, environment
  • Excellent writing skills and proven attention to details
  • Ability to be diplomatic, composed, and proactive in varied interactions
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills with documented experience in public speaking and delivering presentations
  • Excellent professional demeanor
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Commitment to high quality and efficient customer service to students, faculty, staff and external partners
  • Ability to use and understand database tools for record creation, edits, and updates
  • Must be able to work well with individuals of diverse languages, cultures and ethnic groups
  • Candidates must be flexible, creative, energetic, well organized, and task-oriented
  • Working knowledge of MS Office suite and Google services

Preferred:


  • Master's degree
  • International experience (i.e. study abroad; teaching abroad; extensive travel; etc.)
  • Significant programming/event coordination experience in a higher education setting
