Job Title: Quality Engineer
Location: Orwell, OH

Job Summary and Mission:

Kennametal is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our Orwell, Ohio team. This person will partner with Production and Manufacturing Engineering teams to drive quality improvement efforts, respond to and resolve customer concerns, and provide plant floor quality support to ensure 'right first time' builds.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate quality improvement efforts for targeted business metrics.
  • Analyze product and process data to support improvement efforts.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Engineering, and Production to resolve customer complaints.
  • Facilitate and promote the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
  • Resolve quality issues by identifying problems, examining solution options, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
  • Perform duties in accordance with quality system requirements as the voice of Kennametal's customers.
  • Provide support for updating, auditing, and maintaining the ISO Quality Management System.
  • Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes. Review and analyze results with Kennametal's Engineering team. Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.
  • Disposition non-conforming products and recommend containment and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Sales, Customers, and support personnel to interpret and apply quality acceptance criteria.
  • Establish and maintain Process Control Plans.
  • Assist in development and application of product quality criteria.
  • Provide technical assistance to develop and improve inspection methods.
  • Utilize Measurement System Analysis (MSA) to verify measurement system capability.
  • Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Support & Lead PPAP efforts for product launches to meet customer requirements

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Engineering or Technical degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading quality improvements in a manufacturing environment.
  • A hands-on approach is necessary for success in this position.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills and experience in structured problem solving (example A3, 8D, DMAIC).
  • Knowledgeable in the use of statistical methods for process management, problem solving and continuous improvement. MSA/GR&R, SPC, Hypothesis testing, capability analysis, DOE (design of experiments). Minitab experience a plus.
  • Customer complaint handling experience is preferred.
  • Previous internal audit experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in a certified quality management system (e.g. IATF, ISO). Internal or external auditing experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification preferred.
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) experience required.
  • SAP experience a plus
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE-ASQ) is a plus.
