Radiation Sciences Educator (50% FTE)- Radiologic Technology

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology is seeking a Specialized Care Coordinator to Contribute to providing and supporting health care services through leadership, management, clinical services, and education in Radiation Sciences with emphasis in Radiologic Technology.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision of clinical, laboratory, and didactic education of students within the Radiation Sciences Programs, with emphasis in Radiologic Technology, to assure the effective and efficient delivery of health care and health professions education. Maintain current ARRT certification in Radiography (R). Exercise technical expertise in radiation sciences, with emphasis in Radiologic Technology, to function as clinical educator, laboratory educator, didactic educator, mentor, and supervisor of students and perform as a certified Radiologic Technologist while working with students.
  • Provide specialized care and services, diagnostic exams, educational plans, and protocols within the Radiation Sciences Programs with emphasis in Radiologic Technology requiring certification in Radiologic Technology.
  • Develop and assess competent performance in students within the Radiation Sciences Programs by designing and creating instructional and assessment materials using education management systems (ICON and e*Value).
  • Mentor, teach, advise, and supervise students within the Radiation Sciences Programs and provide evaluative feedback about performance.
  • Facilitate changes in program design and instruction within the Radiation Sciences Programs based on systematic evaluation and evidence-based research.
  • Operate, maintain, and update equipment and supplies used in providing instructional labs and demonstrations within the Radiation Sciences Programs.
  • Provide advanced health education in the Radiation Sciences to staff, residents and students using summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Understanding of, and ability to use effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques.
  • Utilize professional certification and knowledge of Radiologic Technology to create, implement, teach, and assess radiation sciences activities.
  • Supervise care delivery of students within the Radiation Sciences Programs, providing evaluative feedback and recommendations regarding performance.
  • Use critical thinking skills, professional certification knowledge, and professional judgment to apply/adopt information to address health issues related to the radiation sciences professions.
  • Influence others to utilize best practices.
  • Assist with development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to the radiation sciences professions and educational programs.
  • Share responsibility for quality and outcomes reporting with supervisors within the Radiation Sciences Programs including monitoring of course enrollments and budget adjustments based on enrollments.
  • May hire, develop, supervise, and manage the performance of staff educators and assure compliance with UI policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Baccalaureate degree or higher;or
  • Successful completion of an ARRT-approved educational program in radiography that is accredited by the JRCERT.
    Minimum of 2-years', full-time, clinical experience in Radiography as an ARRT certified technologist.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Requires current Radiography (R) certification by the ARRT.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification in an ARRT post-primary discipline. Preference will be determined according to instructional needs of the program.
    Clinical instructing experience.
  • Laboratory instructing experience.
  • Soft skills including active listening, conflict resolution, problem-solving, adaptability, and teamwork.
  • Classroom instructing experience.
  • Distance and Online Education experience.
  • Educational coursework to include educational theory, course development, instructional design, and assessment methods.
  • Clinical advising experience.
  • Master's degree or coursework towards a master's degree
