Columbia Forest Products has a SAFETY COORDINATOR opening at our Chatham, Virginia facility. Associates Degree in Safety or similar field or one to three years experience in manufacturing safety role is preferred. Leading through Columbia's core values are essential.

This position will lead the behavioral based safety program at the plant. The facilitator plays the key role in leading the HEROES steering team. Specific responsibilities of the facilitator include:

  • Strong computer skills in Office 365.
  • Coordinating meetings of the steering team.
  • Monitoring and encouraging follow-through by team members on their responsibilities
  • Giving informational presentations to employee groups
  • Supporting the process through informal contact with employees
  • Presenting training sessions, i.e., refresher training, new hire orientation.
  • Using the database software program to enter observation data, incident reports, reach cards and generate reports.
  • Facilitating problem-solving and action-planning meetings using observation data for safety improvement.
  • Serving as a liaison with management. Meeting with the sponsor and the Barrier Removal Team regularly for progress and status reviews.
  • Serving as a liaison with other outside groups.
  • Diagnosing the process' needs and making appropriate recommendations for improvement.
As the Safety Coordinator this position will also be knowledgeable and lead our compliance efforts for OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA regulations
  • Plans and implements training programs in work site safety practices, fire prevention handling techniques for chemicals, and other materials, etc.
  • Inspects plant to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Implements and participates in audit program for the plant which will include several other employees making up a compliance team.
  • Complete quarterly programs
  • Facilitates Compliance Team, their monthly meetings and audits.
Environmental responsibilities include:
  • SPCC Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan.
  • Monthly site inspection
  • Annual site inspection
    • EPCRA TRI & TRI 2 Toxic Release Inventory Threshold Report
    • Air Permit (REG. No. 30120) Documentation
    • SWP VPDES Industrial Storm Water General Permit, Registration # VAR050450
  • Biannually water samples
  • Monthly visual inspection of water run off at all outfall locations
  • Annual site inspection of water run off at all outfall locations
    • Hazardous Waste Document
