Position Summary

Apply your human factors and ergonomics knowledge and expertise to lead and contribute to the definition, design, evaluation, and validation of ICU Medical's innovative, next-generation medical products. You will have a chance to make a significant difference in the safety and comfort of patients and the clinicians by delivering world-class user experiences and medical devices. You will also have primary responsibilities for mentoring junior human factors staff members and directing contractors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Apply your knowledge of human factors theory, principles, methods, and tools to identify, plan, and conduct human factors activities across the product life cycle of innovative, next-generation products.

• Working under minimal supervision, independently plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate human factors activities.

• Perform human factors analysis activities, including developing user profiles, identifying user needs, analyzing user tasks, and identifying and managing use-related risk.

• Translate user needs and requirements into design concepts. Create or contribute to the creation of mockups and prototypes.

• Plan and conduct formative usability evaluations and summative validation tests, analyze data, document results, and present recommendations to product teams.

• Create documentation related to human factors activities needed for regulatory compliance.

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including engineering, marketing, regulatory, and clinical areas.

• Mentor junior human factors staff members and direct contractors.

• Actively contribute ideas for improvement and collaboration.

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth understanding of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, biomechanical, and anthropometric).

• Human factors R&D experience in the medical device industry.

• Ability to apply human factors principles and methods to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of medical devices.

• Expertise in medical device risk management and performing use-related risk analyses (URRAs).

• Deep understanding of FDA, IEC 62366, and MDR human factors regulatory standards related to medical devices.

• Proven human factors leadership and skills.

Ability to mentor and direct junior human factors staff and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related discipline with coursework in Human Factors (M.S. or Ph. D degree in Human Factors Preferred).

• 7+ years of experience (10+ preferred) working in human factors

Work Environment

• This is largely a sedentary role.

• This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

• Typically requires travel 5% to 10% of the time
