About the Team/Position

The Senior Manager, Benefits and Wellbeing will report to the Director, Benefits and Wellbeing reporting under Total Rewards. This team is responsible for administration and compliance of the employee welfare plan. The team administers benefits for 1.4 million associates and continuously strives for consumer-grade experience for associates while maintaining compliance and driving Every Day Low Cost.

This role will be responsible for operating the ERISA Administrative Committee and ERISA Appeal Team. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in employee benefits administration, particularly with ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) compliance and appeals processes. The successful candidate will ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with federal regulations and company policies, while also driving efficiency and enhancing the overall benefits administration process.

What you'll bring...

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CEBS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in benefits administration, with a focus on ERISA compliance and COBRA administration.
  • Proven leadership experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role overseeing teams.

Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of ERISA and COBRA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite.

What you'll do...

Leadership and Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the ERISA Administrative Committee, ERISA Appeal Team, and COBRA administration staff.
  • Establish performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

ERISA Compliance:
  • Oversee the administration and compliance of all ERISA-related activities, including plan documentation, reporting, and disclosure requirements.
  • Ensure the ERISA Administrative Committee operates effectively and efficiently, meeting all regulatory deadlines.
  • Stay current on ERISA regulations and ensure the company's benefits plans are in compliance with federal laws.

Appeals Process Management:
  • Manage the ERISA Appeal Team to ensure timely and accurate handling of participant appeals.
  • Develop and implement procedures for reviewing and resolving appeals in compliance with ERISA guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and support to the team on complex cases and regulatory requirements.

Policy and Procedure Development:
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for ERISA.
  • Ensure documentation is comprehensive, up-to-date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.

Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Conduct regular audits of ERISA and COBRA processes to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and audits as needed.
  • Provide training and updates to staff and other stakeholders on regulatory changes and compliance requirements.
Reporting and Analytics:
  • Prepare and present regular reports on ERISA and COBRA activities to senior management.
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of benefits administration.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
