Role reports to: Research Manager, Upstream R&D

Location: Skillman, NJ Kenvue's corporate headquarters is currently located in Skillman NJ, but is scheduled to move to Summit, NJ in or around early 2025.

Travel %: 10%

Pay range: $84,000-135,700k

What you will do

The successful candidate will conduct research in assigned areas, using the established methodology and developing new methodologies. He/she will identify and develop novel technologies and conduct innovative research as both in vitro and ex vivo proof of concept studies either alone or collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment. The successful candidate will apply theoretical knowledge in skin biology and related sciences to assigned projects, ensure project design reviews, analyses, data summary and interpretation, and report and manuscript preparation. Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will conduct projects for Global Skin Health Upstream R&D and will be directly responsible for new concept and technology evaluation/development, including analyzing/generating new science and data to help build a strategic innovation pipeline aligned with global brand needs.
  • The Senior Scientist will be accountable for the design and execution of multiple projects concurrently.
  • The Senior Scientist will work internally and externally to identify biological targets and technologies to provide skincare benefits
  • He/she will develop in-vitro and ex-vivo models and assays to assess functional effects of technologies to predict with clinical performance, expected to perform laboratory-based studies up to 80% of time/week.
  • The Senior Scientist will evaluate cell signaling mechanisms to understand mechanisms of action for key technologies
  • He/she will work closely in a team environment, as well as independently to acquire data, analyze and interpret results
  • He/she will review external literature, data sources and intellectual property to stay current and assess competitive threats
  • The Senior Scientist may create manuscripts, technical reports/communications, poster abstracts/presentations, and patent fillings as appropriate.
  • The role requires extensive cross functional partnerships and collaboration. A strong scientific background together with strong analytical and communication skills of research findings are a must have prerequisites.


What we are looking for

Required Qualifications
  • The candidate must be eligible to work in the US.
  • Bachelor's or Masters' Degree with minimum of 4 years of research experience, with a background in Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a related life science discipline is required. Industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Research experience in molecular and cellular skin biology including experience with culturing and handling of skin cells and human skin reconstituted tissues and human skin explants is required.
  • Biochemical (e.g. ELISA) and molecular (e.g. QPCR) assays is required.
  • Ability to lead projects, acquire, analyze, interpret and organize data, write and document research experiments and protocols is required.
  • It is required that the candidate be self-motivated, productive and has excellent communication, leadership and scientific problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle retinoids
Desired Qualifications

• Working knowledge and demonstrated experience in skin biological and pigmentation pathways and techniques are strongly preferred.
