We are seeking a talented individual to join our Tax team at Marsh McLennan as a Senior Tax Counsel (Tax Planning). This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in our NYC office.
Our Senior Tax Counsel will lead tax planning initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of tax laws and regulations, along with a proven track record in developing and implementing effective tax strategies that align with our business objectives. This role will involve collaborating with various departments to optimize our tax position while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
We will count on you to:
- Lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of international tax strategies that align with the company's business objectives and risk profile.
- Advise senior management on the tax implications of international transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
- Assist in the development and implementation of worldwide tax strategies to improve earnings and cash flow and to minimize tax liabilities.
- Provide tax advice in connection with cash repatriation transactions, internal reorganizations and integrations, and M&A
- Stay abreast of changes in international tax laws and regulations, ensuring the company remains compliant and strategically positioned.
- Mentor and develop junior tax staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Counsel senior tax department personnel on legal and technical issues as they arise.
- Provide advice regarding the ASC 740 (formerly FIN 48) uncertain tax positions and the need for reserves.
- Collaborate with outside advisors as necessary to accomplish the foregoing.
What you need to have:
- 8+ years law firm, Big Four firm and/or corporate experience (in-house experience is optimal but not required).
- Strong technical international and domestic corporate tax knowledge.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, research, computer, organizational and people skills; person must be an initiative-taker.
- Ability to analyze financial data for purposes of developing and modeling tax strategies.
- Strong spreadsheet and tax accounting skills preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to adjust information and approach to the audience).
- Well-developed relationship-building skills. Need to be a team player and be able to deal confidently with senior professionals and to build relationships.
What makes you stand out:
- J.D., LLM preferred, accounting background a plus.
- Experience handling projects revolving around tax credit and planning, Pillar Two, GILTI tax, corporate finance, international restructuring, etc..
- Ability to model and illustrate the tax impact of tax structure and deal alternatives and effectively communicate to other relevant stakeholders

All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one "anchor day" per week on which their full team will be together in person.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $129,400 to $258,800.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
