Accountable for coordinating the development of practical Environmental and Safety programs that: Raise associates' awareness of risks and risk control strategies; Reduce, eliminate, and protect associates from hazards in the workplace that may result in occupational injuries, illnesses, and financial losses; Ensure policies and programs comply with all federal, state, local and corporate laws, regulations, policies and procedures; Participate as a member of the Vertiv global EHS leadership team and contribute to the development of policy and procedure that that enhance the safety of our operations and minimize the impact of our manufacturing operations on the environment. This individual would be responsible for assisting the EHS organization globally.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify safety and environmental hazards inherent in our operations and establish guidelines and assist plant management with implementing procedures to protect associates and the environment from those hazards.
- Coordinate the organization's efforts on managing all aspects of EHS. Provide guidance and advice to the global EHS team on procedure development and enhancing the organizational culture.
- Participate in the investigation of incidents, near-miss incidents, and occupational injuries to determine causes and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate and establish standards for LIFE/SIF (Serious Injury and Fatality) prevention, including the latest technology, personal protective equipment and other prevention measures.
- Understand and apply the HOP (Human and Organizational Performance) principles in the context of procedure development and incident analysis.
- Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports.
- Manage the review and improvement process for all safety and environmental programs for compliance with company standards and government regulations.
- Develop and implement environmental programs to assure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and in support of company environmental guidelines including but not limited to air permitting, hazardous and non-hazardous waste collection and disposal, NPDES and storm water management.
- Assist the global EHS team in developing, adopting and managing the development of relevant policies.
- Provide technical input to teams and recommend future environmental and safety preventative actions including alternative methods or equipment to eliminate potential problem areas.
- Create, administer, and conduct safety and environmental training to support established programs.
- Develop, track, analyze, and communicate safety statistics and plant environmental reporting and statistics including but not limited to hazardous waste generator status, air emissions, hazardous chemical usage and reporting requirements, etc.
- Assist and assure that all required safety and environmental reports on time and accurately as required by laws and regulations.
- Devises methods to evaluate safety program and conducts or directs evaluations.
- Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management to update knowledge of safety program developments.
- Oversee office functions.
- Train staff on policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Other special projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive experience in EHS management, preferably in Electronics manufacturing and services, Heavy Engineering, Petro Chemicals, Biotechnology, Consumer Products or other progressive industries.
- Experience including program development and implementation.
- Thorough knowledge of EHS regulations, standards, and best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
- Emphasis on LIFE/SIF procedures including those related to electrical safety, ARC Flash, Lockout, Machine Guarding, Work at Height, Mobile Equipment, Crane/hoisting activities, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence.
- Understanding of effective Lean and operating system implementation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office and database management skills.
- Detail oriented and effective management of procedure databases, in alignment with ISO and global standards, and management of EHS metrics databases.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.
- Ability to present analysis, results, and options to management in a clear, concise way.
