The Role:

Moderna is seeking a highly motivated and experienced computational scientist to join our highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced team dedicated to the development of individualized neoantigen cancer therapies. The main focus of this role is to develop leading-edge algorithms related to personalized cancer immunotherapy. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in theoretical leading-edge machine learning techniques with a proven track record of developing advanced algorithms that can transform complex data into actionable insights. You will be at the forefront of personalized medicine, working alongside a team of computational biologists, immunologists, and translational biologists to drive the next generation of cancer treatments.

Here's What You Will Do:

  • Design, implement and evaluate leading-edge machine learning immunoinformatics algorithms such as epitope presentation, immunogenicity, TCR recognition/motif analysis and structural modeling
  • Explore and integrate large-scale immunological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomic, mass spectrometry, and structural data, to derive orthogonal contributors of effective immunotherapy design
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific findings and technological developments and continuously improve computational tools
  • Maintain detailed documentation of data analysis methods and results
  • Participate in team meetings and present findings

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:
  • PhD degree + 2 years of experience or Master's degree + 5 years of experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong foundational understanding and proven track record in machine learning algorithm development (GNN, LSTM, Transformers, etc.), preferably with applications in immunology or genomics
  • Proficiency in handling and interpreting large-scale biological datasets, including genomic and proteomic data
  • Strong programming skills in Python/R and with ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch).
  • Experience with high performance cloud computing such as the AWS cloud computing platform
  • Innovative thinker with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative research team
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
