The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025. This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care's nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services. University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Anesthesia, Division of Acute Pain Service, in collaboration with the Department of Nursing, is seeking dedicated Staff Nurses to uphold exceptional patient care standards by performing essential responsibilities related to pain management.
Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to:
- Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
- Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
- Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
- Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, documents/reports, interventions and patient/family response.
- Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
- Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precaution.

Education Required An associate degree in nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
Experience Required - Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving.
Desirable Qualifications - Demonstrates strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to function independently.
- Current experience with assisting with ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and pain management procedure.
- Experience with performing time-outs, patient monitoring, and care during and after interventional procedures including IV medication administration.
- Demonstration of active attainment of a solid knowledge base (through professional reading, in-service attendance and attainment of CEUs) in the area of Pain Management Nursing within the previous 12 months.
- 3-5 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting or inpatient setting with experience that includes pain management (including experience with pain management during painful procedures), aseptic technique and venipuncture.
- Current experience with telephone patient care management.
- Certification in Pain Management Nursing or a related nursing field.
