Support Services Specialist (Audiology Assistant)

The department of Otolaryngology is seeking a Support Services Specialist to function as an Audiologist Assistant. This person will provide health related services and/or clinical operational support to assure effective and efficient delivery of health care. Contribute to providing and supporting cochlear implant audiological services. Exercise technical expertise in cochlear implant testing and device troubleshooting. Conduct consenting and cochlear implant device consultations. Coordinate patient appointments. Assist with other non-billable duties associated with cochlear implants.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Provide Support Services to Clinical and Non-Clinical Departments:

Provide services for patients for cochlear implant testing, audiology assistance, care coordination, and health professions education.

Supervise the delivery of services such as health information, clinic scheduling and operations, etc. Perform tasks/inspections to meet compliance goals, patient/customer satisfaction expectations.

Communicate/Collaborate with Internal and External Constituents:

Collaborate with peers and co-workers to enhance the delivery of health care.

Provide feedback to management on means to achieve goals and resolve service issues.

Develop Programs, Policies, and Practices that Enhance Patient/Staff Environment:

Provide input/suggestions regarding policies, practices, and programs that improve services.

Human Resources Management:

Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved.

Financial Management:

May analyze, monitor and report financial data, information and reports.

May initiate and/or approve routine fiscal transactions.

May contribute to budget development.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Administrative supervision is received from the department administrator and functional supervision is received from the director of audiology.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Functional supervision may be exercised over support staff and students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 6 months related experience counseling people on communication strategies and effects of hearing loss is required.
  • Experience adjusting and troubleshooting hearing instruments for maximum comfort and effectiveness is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • 5 years or more experience working with children with developmental disabilities is highly desirable
