Position Summary:
The System Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine in partnership with the Executive Medical Director, Affiliate Department Chairs, and Medical Staff is accountable for developing fully integrated services that are clinically interconnected across the continuum of care and transitions of care by standard policies, procedures, metrics, reporting and other necessary elements. The System Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine will work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including system administrative and physician leaders to expand, improve, and strengthen the service line operations, functions, programs and integrated clinics/practice settings across the local hospital and health system. In partnership with the System Executive Medical Director, the Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine is responsible to set standards and expectations of quality, patient safety and other important outcomes. In addition, the Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine ensures that all clinical activities are compliant with regulatory and accreditation standards. Finally, the Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine exemplifies emotional maturity in his/her behavior and holds all members to the same standard.
The Division Heads at Rochester Regional Health have leadership responsibilities over the clinical service line development. The role is vital to the successful system coordination of peer review, credentialing and education. These and other departmental functions facilitate and protect high standards of practice throughout many health system affiliates. Applying effective leadership in this domain requires close partnerships that cross departmental and service line boundaries such as partnerships with affiliate, operational, nursing, finance and other leaders.
The System Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine is a member of the service line leadership team with broad responsibilities to lead the strategic, clinical and operational activities of his/her division within the context of the service line and RRH goals & priorities. The System Division Head of Hospitalist Medicine is responsible for driving clinical, operational and financial performance levels within his/her services to advance the health system's strategic agenda. System Division Heads are members of the Hospital and Affiliate Teams and are expected to work collaboratively with their respective operational partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Programs
• Play a key role in collaborating in the development of a geographically and clinically integrated service line, including the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care and services across the health system.
• Advocate for the capital, equipment, technology, personnel and administrative support needed to effectively run clinical programs of the service line.
• In partnership with affiliate department chairs and medical directors, present recommendations to the Medical Staffs of the respective health system affiliates concerning staff appointment, reappointment, clinical privileging and required levels of supervision for all providers of clinical services. This applies to all physicians and advanced practice providers.
• Set strategic direction for recruitment and retention of service line providers and the various clinical skills necessary to fulfill the mission of the service line and its programs.
• Collaborate with other service lines and clinical departments, affiliates and system wide leaders to develop, sustain and improve joint services that enhance the strategic mission of RRH.
• Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of new technologies and procedures to stay up-to-date with the latest standards of care.
Quality and Patient Safety
• Develop relevant quality and performance metrics for the service line and a method of tracking, trending and reporting them. Hold departmental members accountable for individual quality performance.
• Oversee the quality of health care delivered throughout the service line in all affiliates and across the continuum of care. Oversee the quality and appropriateness of health care provided and report and resolve any identified deficiencies in the quality of patient care.
• In partnership with affiliate department chairs and medical directors, ensure ongoing evaluation of department members' competencies and performance of clinical duties in relation to the scope of practice, credentials and privileges of each individual, such as focused (FPPE) and ongoing professional performance evaluations (OPPE).
• Collaborate with the RRH Safety Institute and Risk Management in root cause analyses and other quality/performance improvement activities within the department and the health system.
• Ensure completion of all provider performance assessments, e.g. ongoing and focused professional performance evaluations.
• Expand the scope of quality metric and process-driven care throughout the division.
• In partnership with departmental leadership will investigate and mitigate complaints and grievances about the health care provided in the department or related to the actions of any department member; demonstrate a commitment to achieving high patient and team member satisfaction.
Teaching and Education
• Champion support for the residency and fellowship programs and oversee the education of medical students, APP students, residents and fellows rotating through the division.
• Provide oversight, design and direction to the teaching functions of the division related to morbidity and mortality reviews, grand rounds, etc.
• Ensure a program of continuing medical education is implemented for service line members.
• Regularly participate in training on effective leadership.
Regulatory Compliance
• In partnership with departmental leadership and other subject matter experts, ensure that the department is in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements by reviewing and updating as necessary service line and division policies, bylaws, rules and regulations, including but not limited to policies about orientation, continuing education, training, Code of Conduct, etc.
Administrative
• Collaborate with nursing, operational and other leaders to develop and sustain the structure needed for clinical programs and health care delivery.
• Participate in hospital, system and Medical Staff committees, projects and initiatives to support and further the strategic aims of the health system.
• An active member and participant in health system leadership committees
Leadership
• Contribute to the development of a comprehensive divisional strategy informed by data, emerging market and technology trends such as forces influencing the growth utilization and delivery of care

Operational
• Lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures that achieve consistency, standardization and efficiency.
• In partnership with affiliate department chairs and medical directors, implement the bylaws of the Medical Staff and be an active member and participant on the Medical Executive Committee when appropriate.
• Implement and design evidence-based team-based care models
• Develop and implement innovative clinical program growth strategies, physician and payer alignment, and consumer engagement models in a highly competitive and complex market
• Contribute to the effective utilization of data to drive service line initiatives.
Financial
• In conjunction with his/her EMD and CAO, provide input into the service line budget and monitor the financial performance and take necessary management actions to ensure achievement of expected financial performance.
• Partner with other operational and clinical leaders to develop utilization management strategies that improve the efficiency and cost of care.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Physician, M.D., D.O., M.B.B.S, D.D.S., D.M.D
• MBA, MHA preferred
Required Licensure/Certification:
• Board Certified in Specialty or Subspecialty
• New York State Medical License, or ability to obtain an unrestricted NY State Medical License prior to employment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: L - Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly; requires occasional walking, standing or squatting.
PAY RANGE: $250,000.00 - $350,000.00
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
