Qualifications
Vocational or Technical School and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A licensed CVT in Pennsylvania is preferred, and experience with high quality, high-volume surgery is beneficial. Some experience in shelter medicine is required. Outreach experience to the community is also encouraged. Above average foundational veterinary technical skills are required including anesthesia, surgical monitoring, prep, restraint, behavior, radiology, instrument management, and dentistry. They should also be familiar with using electronic medical records. Experience with Clinic HQ is a positive, but not a requirement. Fear Free or Penn Vet CALM certification is also a positive, but not a requirement. Must be able to work independently, with a team, in tight spaces, identify and solve problems, and have above average technological skills. This individual will be expected to have respectful and professional interactions with others at Penn Vet and with partners and may have other responsibilities as designated by the Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program. The individual will need to be able to lift patients, including large breed dogs and cats in humane traps, load supplies on and off the unit including into a high storage area, stand for ten-hour shifts, and sit for periods of time to do project work when appropriate. Weekly schedules can vary based on clinical workload and task priorities.
