SUMMARY:
This is an entry level position that is part of a formal training program. This job is foundational and expected to be a starting point within Business Development/Underwriting and is expected to last up to one year.
Upon completion of the training program the trainee is expected to be familiar with the department policies, processes, procedures, and terminology related to the job. In addition, the trainee will be proficient in the job responsibilities and tasks of the progressive positions within the career path. The trainee will be evaluated on their progress during the training period and on successful completion of the training plan. Upon satisfactory completion of training, the trainee will be eligible for a targeted position within the career path.
We are seeking to hire and begin training May or June 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS:
In a Learning Capacity:
- Learn and develop skills and competencies from performance of assigned duties.
- Learn and develop skills and competencies in the use of systems, software, and programs.
- Research and analyze information within the assigned area (Claims, Loss Control, Underwriting)
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Compute and provide reports, attend company meetings, and provide feedback to the appropriate supervisor(s).
- Works with all internal departments to resolve problems and maintain company relations.
- Participates as necessary on special committees and task forces.
Underwriting:
- Calculates, prepares and develops premium quotations using corporate underwriting guidelines within letter of authority
- Determines underwriting eligibility for prospective policyholders and develops appropriate pricing for new business, renewals, and endorsements
- Analyzes and reviews prospective accounts for insurability and accepts or rejects within letter of authority.
- Supports agency relationships.
- Develops new business and retention of existing business in a given territory or region.
- Explains and emphasizes benefit of workers' compensation insurance products and services to customers (agents and policyholders).
- Analyze accounts to determine exposure and proper pricing
- Reviews loss trends and develops action plans to correct problem areas

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:A variety of assessments may be utilized as part of the selection process.
EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE: Underwriting/Business Development:
Associates in related field and certification (such as ARM, CPCU, AU) required; or a Bachelor's degree in related field required. Continuous learning required, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy. Certification, or progress toward, highly preferred and encouraged.
EXPERIENCE:With proper education, no experience is required. One-year of relevant experience in an insurance environment or knowledge of worker's compensation is desired. Bi-lingual skills in speaking, writing, or reading English and Spanish are desired.
Underwriting/Business Development: Agency Management and marketing experience is preferred.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED: - Ability to make efficient and effective decisions.
- Basic knowledge of workers compensation industry.
- Ability to function effectively in a multi-functional team environment.
- Ability to learn and be proficient with computers and company standard software specific to the position.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed in the office and occasionally in the field with minimal hazards. Minimal travel is required with occasional overnight stays.
Work is performed primarily in the field. However, may be required to visit customer locations which may present some unusual hazards. Frequent travel, primarily by auto, is required with overnight stays. Ability to lift and carry computer equipment weighing up to 35 lbs. Must possess a valid driver's license with a record that meets corporate standards.

Actual compensation decision relies on the consideration of internal equity, candidate's skills and professional experience, geographic location, market and other potential factors. It is not standard practice for an offer to be at or near the top of the range, and therefore a reasonable estimate for this role is between $52,000 and $55,750.
